Flights

Here are the flight details of eight of the people coming in to Mallorca.
Joe, Debbie,Doug,Judy,Kent, and Betsy will arrive on the same flight LH4302 at 12:45 just after noon.  Kathy and Irma will arrive on LH1796 at 1:05 20 minutes later.  Dan and Laurie are in Paris and their arrival time is unknown.

    • Specific scenario for at least 6 of us flying Lufthansa into Frankfort

      • Arrival: 08:20, Gate Z69 (non-Schengen arrivals, mostly U.S. flights from Chicago).

      • Departure: 10:30, Gate A22 (Schengen, Palma flight).

      • Connection time: ~2 hr 10 minutes.

This is very doable if we move efficiently. Here’s what to expect and tips to make it smoother:

      🔀 The Route (Z69 → A22)

      1. Deplane at Z gates (non-Schengen):
Follow yellow “Transfer / Connecting Flights” signs. Don’t go to baggage claim.

      2. Passport Control (immigration):

        • You’ll move toward the Schengen entry checkpoint.

        • Lines can vary — at 07:30 there could be a wave of U.S. arrivals.

        • Frankfurt has a special “Fast Connection” line: if your flight is boarding soon, you can ask an airport staffer to direct you there. Don’t be shy about showing your Palma boarding pass.  YES WE DO THIS

        • Security Screening:

        • After passport control, you’ll usually have to pass through security again (bags + body scanner).

        • This can be a bottleneck. Use priority/family/special lanes if you qualify (some airlines grant priority if connection is tight).

      3. Walk to Gate A22:

        • From Z → A involves tunnels and escalators, roughly a 15–20 minute walk if direct.

        • Look for the A signs and keep a good walking pace — don’t get distracted by duty-free shops.

✅ Tips to Smooth the Process

      • Have documents ready: passport in hand, boarding pass (paper or digital) out.

      • Skip the restrooms until after passport control — every minute counts.

      • Follow “Short Connections” signs: Frankfurt marks them with arrows and sometimes has staff helping direct people.

      • Ask for help: If lines are long, politely show your Palma boarding pass to an officer or airport staff and say “My connection is boarding soon”. They can direct you to faster lanes.

      • Know your gate location: A22 is best guess but look at the screens to verify.  It is in the Schengen area, close to the A pier. Once you’re through, it should be straightforward.

      ⏱ Realistic Timing Breakdown

      • Deplane + walk to passport control: 10–15 minutes.

      • Passport control (immigration): 10–25 minutes (shorter if you use fast lane).

      • Security check: 10–20 minutes.

      • Walk to A22: 10–15 minutes.

      👉 That’s 40–75 minutes total.

backup plan (like what to do if lines are long and it looks like we will miss the Palma flight)?

  • ✈️ 1. Don’t Panic — Palma Is Well-Connected

    • Palma de Mallorca (PMI) is a major leisure destination with many daily flights from Frankfurt.

    • If you miss your 08:40 flight, there will almost certainly be later departures the same day on Lufthansa or partner airlines.

    • Lufthansa usually operates multiple daily flights to Palma (often 5–7).

🛠 2. What To Do if You’re Delayed

    • At passport control/security:
If lines look bad, immediately ask staff for help with your connection. They sometimes escort passengers forward.

    • If you miss boarding at A22:

      • Head straight to a Lufthansa Service Desk (there are several near A gates).

      • Or use the Lufthansa app / kiosks — they often auto-rebook you on the next available Palma flight for free if the connection was on one ticket.

    • If your itinerary is on a single booking (Chicago → Palma via Frankfurt):

      • Lufthansa (or United if you booked with them) is responsible for rebooking you.

      • They’ll typically put you on the next flight to Palma at no extra cost.

    • If you booked separate tickets:

      • You’ll need to buy a new Palma ticket if you miss the connection.

      • In that case, Vueling, Ryanair, Condor, and Eurowings also fly FRA → PMI, giving you budget options.

🛬 3. While Waiting for the Next Flight

    • Lounges / Waiting Areas: If you have status or a day pass, the Lufthansa lounges are in A gates (nice for breakfast and Wi-Fi).

    • Food: Quick grab-and-go spots are right by the A gates if you don’t have lounge access.

    💡 Pro Tips

    • Track flights before you travel: Check how often the 07:30 arrival from Chicago lands on time. Sometimes flights land early, giving you extra buffer.

    • Check Lufthansa’s later Palma flights now: Knowing exact departure times (e.g., 11:00, 13:30, etc.) will reduce stress if you need to rebook.

    • Have the Lufthansa app installed — it will often update your rebooking automatically.

Below are clear, step-by-step walking directions from baggage claim at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) to La Bellota or MásQMenos. These routes keep us  lands-side (no security) and are easy with luggage.

    Starting Point (for both)

    You have:

    • Landed

    • Collected luggage

    • Walked into the Arrivals Hall (Public Area, Level 0)

    You will see:

    • Car rental desks

    • Exit doors to taxis and curbside pickup

    • Cafés and fast-food signs

Route A: Arrivals → La Bellota (Outside, Easiest with Luggage)

Best option for a relaxed wait + tapas + outdoor seating

    Walking time: ~3–4 minutes

    1. From the Arrivals Hall, follow signs for “Exit / Salida”.

    2. Walk straight out through the main sliding glass doors.

    3. Once outside, turn right and stay under the covered walkway.

    4. Walk 50–100 meters along the terminal façade.

    5. You’ll see La Bellota on your right-hand side, with:

      • Outdoor terrace seating

      • Jamón legs visible

      • Beer/wine signage

    Why this is ideal

    • No stairs or elevators

    • Plenty of space for luggage

    • Easy for late arrivals to spot and join

Route B: Arrivals → MásQMenos (Tapas, Near Terminal)

Best option if you want indoor seating and more “meal-like” food

    Walking time: ~4–5 minutes

    1. From Arrivals Hall, walk toward the main exit (same as above).

    2. Exit through the sliding doors to the curbside.

    3. Once outside, turn left and follow the terminal frontage.

    4. Stay on the ground level; do not go upstairs.

    5. Look for MásQMenos signage near the terminal exterior dining area.

      • Red/white branding

      • Tapas posters

      • Mixed indoor/outdoor seating

⚠️ If you reach long-term parking or taxi lines, turn back slightly — you’ve gone too far.

    Quick Decision Guide

    • Waiting 1–2+ hours for others?La Bellota

    • Want tapas + sit-down meal feel?MásQMenos

    • Lots of luggage / tired travelers?La Bellota

    Practical Tips for Your Group

    • Pick one meeting spot and text it to the group (I recommend La Bellota terrace).

    • Order small plates first, then add more as people arrive.

    • Restrooms are back inside the terminal — use them before settling in.

If you want, I can also:

    • Tell you which is better at specific times of day

    • Suggest exact orders that work well for staggered arrivals

    • Give the next steps from there to rental cars or taxis
